The Economics of Social Cost in America – A Focus on Health Care and
Medical Education

Rising health care and education costs in the United States have created
a wide area of psycho-socioeconomic difficulties for patients, students
and clinicians alike. Problems include but are not limited to decreasing
quality of care, over diagnosing of patients, overprescribing of
medications, student indebtedness, lowered academic standards and
inflated grades. These dysfunctional outcomes resulted from the
“corporatization” of these sectors; radically converting them from
socially essential services to profit driven ventures. In this highly
interactive course, we will attempt to examine the root causes of these
social time bombs and develop a series of recommendations to address them.

First Class: Tuesday, June 11 Sessions: 5
Dates: 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/2, 7/9 Time: 6:00 PM– 8:00 PM
Instructor: Dr. Andreas Adams
Location: 800 Second Ave, Suite 600, New York, NY, 10017 **Photo ID
required for access.

Depressions in a Credit Driven Economy

The purpose of this course is to offer an alternative theoretical
framework to explain the workings of the US economy since the
abandonment of the Gold Standard. The end of the Gold Standard has
gradually but surely brought into being a new kind of economy based on
credit fueled consumption rather than capital accumulation and
investment as it has traditionally been since the Industrial Revolution.
Has this shift in the economic system ushered in a new era of growth and
prosperity or does it contain the seeds of another pernicious cycle of
instability?
Join Andrew Mazzone for a series of illuminating lectures that will
highlight new sets of theoretical reference points to help you
understand how the US economy has changed since the unravelling the
Bretton Woods system and where it could be heading.

First Class: Wednesday, June 17 Sessions: 6
Dates: 6/17, 6/24, 7/1, 7/8, 7/15, 7/22 Time: 6:30 PM– 8:30 PM
Instructor: Andrew Mazzone & Ibrahima Drame
Location: 5W 19th Street Suite 2 C, New York, NY 10011

(Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays)

Understanding Political Economy

Despite all the great achievements that capitalism has been able to
deliver, why has it failed to bring an end to poverty? Why instead does
poverty seem to be the eternal problem, overshadowing every inch of
progress that the humankind has been able to achieve? Why do economic
recessions still occur, unpredictable and yet seemingly inevitable?
These are the questions that Henry George set out to answer in his
famous book, Progress & Poverty; and they still remain with us in the
21st century.

In this series of seminars, we will use George's work to structure our
study of these questions. After describing the problem, we will examine
the principles by which wealth is produced and distributed, paying
careful attention to a few key concepts. We will use this understanding
to see why scientific, technological, and organizational progress has
been unable to eliminate poverty.

First Class: Tuesday June 9
Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays Time: 3:00 PM– 5:00 PM
Instructor: Marcial Cordon & Ibrahima Drame
Location: 5W 19th Street Suite 2 C, New York, NY 10011

Special Seminar
AMERICA IS NOT BROKE!
Featuring Author Scott Baker
Tuesday June 23, 2015
800 Second Avenue, Suite 600 in Manhattan (Consulate of Ecuador)

The unsustainability of the American economy is as familiar as the
newscycle. There is no money for social programs, no money to run the
government, no money to cut taxes, and above all, we have to cut, cut, cut.
But, what if it’s not true? Instead of familiar complaints about the
national debt, leading to just slicing a shrinking economic pie
differently, or worse, to Austerity Economics, the reality is that we
already have all the wealth we could ever need. The tried and proven
proposals presented in this special seminar based on the book America Is
Not Broke! would guarantee America’s prosperity, fairness, democracy,
and economic and ecological sustainability forever. Four multi-trillion
dollar reforms: Sovereign Money, Georgism, Public Banking, and Ending
Government Financial Asset Hoarding, plus a few other major reforms,
show how we can have it all, if we only learn where to look.

This one-night seminar summarizes and augments the findings of the book;
with new and local issues and solutions not found in America is Not Broke!

Presenter: Scott Baker, President of Common Ground New York
Date: Tuesday June 23, 2015
Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: 800 Second Avenue, Suite 600 (Consulate of Ecuador), New York,
NY 10017. ( Photo ID required)
Note: 20 copies of the book “America is Not Broke!” will be on sale
after the seminar for the one-time low price of $15 each.
