The Cornell Lap of Ornithology YardMap Project currently is recruiting participants for a research project in Ithaca and Owego regarding habitat gardens for birds and pollinators. Here is some brief information on the project:
-YardMap is researching the claim that using native plants and sustainable management practices in habitat gardening can increase bird and pollinator counts in residential settings. -YardMap is looking for homeowners in the Owego and Ithaca areas to commit to a 3 year participation in this research project. -Participants will receive free native plants for a habitat garden, free consultation and assistance with planting and managing the gardens, and be invited to attend learning workshops. -YardMap will then monitor bird and pollinator activity for the 3 years. YardMap is interested in looking at the differences small improvements in garden design can make on the diversity and abundance of birds and bees that visit your gardens and yards throughout the year. If you would be interested in testing how well your yard can function as habitat please email [email protected] or call 254-2450 to volunteer your yard or to request more information. Please feel free to share this information with folks you know who may be interested or contact YardMap with questions.
