Backyard Poultry Keeping Class

The class will focus on breeds for egg laying, raising chicks to layers, 
housing, as well as general care and feeding of birds.   Heather Birdsall, area 
livestock educator with Cooperative Extension, will lead the class. There is a 
$5.00 fee (per household) to attend the class and certificates will be given to 
City of Ithaca residents seeking to apply for a permit to keep chickens on city 
lots.

The class is required for City residents to obtain a permit from the City Clerk 
to keep up to 4 chickens (no roosters) on city lots greater than 3000 SF.  
Chicken coops must be able to be located at least 5 feet away from neighboring 
property and 20 feet from the primary residence.
