ITHACA, N.Y. -- After nearly a decade on the Tompkins County Legislature,
Carol Chock (D-District 3) has announced that she will not seek re-election
to a fourth term in office.

“I am especially proud of the role I've played helping to lead Tompkins
County into the renewable energy future, ensuring social justice, and
preserving the special sense of place for all residents in our fine
community,” Chock said. “This is a dynamic period in our nation's history
for public participation. The democratic process works best when there is
representation from many sectors and spheres of interest.”

County Legislature terms are four years. The current term expires at the
end of 2017. Chock has been approached by interested potential candidates
and says that she is available to talk to anybody who is motivated by a
desire to accomplish something, encourage equity, and raise the level of
public discourse. Her legislative district includes Belle Sherman, Bryant
Park, South Hill, and portions of upper Collegetown and East Hill.

Chock can be reached at (607) 277-0006 for information regarding
responsibilities of the office. Citizens from District 3 who would like to
discuss running for this office on the Democratic line may also contact
Tompkins County Democratic Chair Irene Stein at (607) 266-7579. The
election will be November 7.
