Dear Jeanne,

We only have three days left in this year's legislative session. Please take
action today!

A bill before the state legislature would give counties in the Lower Hudson
Valley - a critical area in New York that faces extreme development pressures -
a new tool to raise funds to protect their natural heritage, water quality and
working farms.

The "Hudson Valley" Community Preservation Act is the first step to giving ALL
of New York's towns the power to create their own community preservation funds
when and how they choose to do so.

Urge your Senator and Assembly member to stand up for communities that want to
protect their natural areas and historic places by passing the Hudson Valley
Community Preservation Act today.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):

Your Assemblyperson (if you live in New York)

Your State Senator (if you live in New York)

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Please Pass the Community Preservation Act (S.3836) in 2007

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

Please stand up for communities in New York State by passing the Hudson Valley
Community Preservation Act (A.7849b/S.6271) today.

Communities in New York need and want new tools to protect our heritage. And
passing the Hudson Valley Community Preservation Act is the first step toward
giving all of New York's towns this critical tool.

In Westchester and Putnam Counties, natural areas are disappearing and working
farms are being turned into housing developments and strip malls. In the
long-term interests of New York's clean air, clean water and the health of our
families, I am writing as your constituent and as a member of Environmental
Advocates of New York to urge you to support the Hudson Valley Community
Preservation Act.

Residents and local lawmakers in the Hudson Valley want this legislation. On
Long Island, Community Preservation Funds are so popular that when voters were
given the opportunity to re-approve the program they extended it for another 10
years--twice. Those funds will now exist through 2030 and to date have raised
more than $400 million to preserve unique spaces locally. In addition, Warwick
and Red Hook have already voted to create their own community preservation
funds.

As your constituent, I respectfully request you do all you can to bring the
Hudson Valley Community Preservation Act (A.7849b/S.6271) to the floor of your
house for a vote before the end of the 2007 session.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Fudala
