Compost with Confidence Workshop - Winterize Your Outdoor Bin Saturday, October. 27, 12-1 pm Ithaca Community Gardens (follow signs from the Ithaca Farmer's Mkt.) Master Composters will teach you tricks to extend the composting season well into the cold months and the preparations necessary to ensure successful composting over the winter. Workshop is free and registration is not required. ? Making Ends Meet Tuesday, October 30, 10:00 a.m. This workshop provides an overview of the process for developing and using a household spending plan. We also explore ways to maximize resources and reduce energy use. Free and open to the public, with refreshments and door prizes. All attendees also receive a money management tool kit. The Woods in Your Backyard Tuesday, October 30, 6:30-8:30pm Arnot Forest, 611 County Route 13, Van Etten, NY 14889 Do you own just a few acres in the suburbs or in the country? Are you interested in learning more about your land and what activities or improvements might be possible? This class is for people who own smaller parcels of land (2 - 10 acres) and would like to tend their fields, forests, and wildlife as well as possible. We will review some of the challenges and opportunities that come with owning a backyard woodlot, and present tips for creating a backyard woodlot from an existing lawn area. We will also explore ideas for improving wildlife habitat, and highlight whats realistic or unrealistic to expect concerning timber sales and other income-generating activities. Finally, well offer tips on posting and trespassing issues. The cost to attend is $12/person if you pre-register, and $15 for walk-ins.
