The Ithaca Alternative Gift Fair is back for its fourth year. Thirty-one
organizations are participating in the event, which offers shoppers an
opportunity to give charitable donations as holiday gifts for friends and
relatives.

The Fair will be held from 10 am to 4 pm, Saturday, December 1, at the First
Presbyterian Church, 315 North Cayuga Street, Ithaca. Free parking is available
in the nearby County lots behind the main courthouse and the Old Jail building,
and the church is easily accessible to the ADA community.

All of the money collected at the Fair goes directly to the participating
organizations. Among this year's 150 gift offerings are hot meals for the
homeless, help for at-risk youth and special-needs children, support for
community talking circles on racism, help for injured or lost animals, and many
gifts that support families in impoverished countries around the world.

Gifts at the Fair start at $5, and every gift comes with a free greeting card
and an insert with information about the gift and the organization, each of
which has a proven track record of helping people and the environment. The Fair
has grown in popularity and earned more money for the organizations each year
and has the additional benefit of reducing the impact on the environment of
conventional gift-giving.

This year's Gift Fair organizations are: the Advocacy Center, Better Housing
for Tompkins County, Catholic Charities of Tompkins County, Cayuga Lake
Watershed Network, Compos Mentis, CRESP Center for Transformative Action,
Educate the Children, Family and Children's Services, Family Reading
