Dear sustainability friends,

I have been invited to participate in a new Community Outreach group
that is part of the Creative Core Green Team. The Creative Core is an
effort to drive business and community development across the Central
NY region. See http://www.creativecoreny.com/ Mostly it is a shared
branding and marketing exercise, but there is a subgroup called the
Green Team which has task groups working on business development, R&D,
workforce development, and marketing - and now community outreach.

To enable a regional conversation and keep the carbon footprint low, I
suggested the group take advantage of the videoconferencing facilities
at most cooperative extension offices. Our second meeting will be on
August 1 from 10-11:30. Most of the group will be at the Onondaga CCE
office, but we can join them from our local CCE office.

If you would be interested in learning more about what other
sustainability groups are "out there" in our region, please join me at
CCE of Tompkins County, 615 Willow Ave., Room C, on Friday, August 1.
Read below for details about the goals of this group.

thanks,
Gay

Dear members of the Community Outreach Task Group for the Creative
Core Green Team: (we need a shorter name)
NEXT MEETING: Friday, August 1, @ 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Site Location: Cornell Cooperative Extension, Onondaga County
220 Herald Place (Red Cross Bldg. – near Dinosaur BarBQ)
2nd floor
The meeting will be teleconferenced to those of you who cannot attend
at the Syracuse site. You must make arrangements with your local
Cornell Cooperative Extension.
PLEASE LET US KNOW WHICH CCE YOU WILL BE AT SO WE CAN MAKE THE
NECESSARY ARRANGEMENTS FROM OUR END.

The first item on the agenda will be to clarify our task based on the
goal for “Community Outreach”. As a reminder, the goal is:
Goal: To identify, involve, and coordinate existing “green” citizen
groups that foster public education, public policy advocacy, and
public outreach to promote intelligent, inclusive, sustainable
decisions to confirm Central Upstate New York is the “Green capital of
the World”.

Objective: To make contact with citizen non-profit organizations in
the 14 county area defined by the Creative Core Green Team who
identify their mission with sustainable communities and green
activities. Once we have the contacts, our role is to share this
information with the Green Team Task Groups, enable collaborations,
and find ways to network. It is up to each organization to educate,
promote advocacy, involve citizens, and do what they do best. A recent
quote byEd Bogucz, executive director of the Syracuse Center of
Excellence sums up our intent very well. He said, “It’s not just about
the companies, but about citizens and their choices”.

Several participants took assignments. They are:
Tracie Hall and Jeff Hinman – obtain a copy of the Hudson Valley
Sustainability Report (Tracie was unable to obtain a copy –
Irondequoit’s plan is available)
Tracie Hall – list of organizations in the 14 county area
Elizabeth Slate and Mark Naef – lists of green organizations in CNY
Please try to get this information to either Melissa or me as soon as
possible.

We are inviting Linda Hartsock and Linda Clark to our next meeting to
give you an overview of the Creative Core Green Team, its composition,
its activities, and how we fit into the framework of the Battelle
Report and the other 5 Task Groups.
