The oil and gas industry is killing contract drilling workers from TX and LA to WY and beyond. Profits rule! Water & life be damned. Tony Del Plato

Recall that some of the worst offenders who turned up in the report on fatalities by the Senate HELP Committee in 2008 and the US DOL INspector General's report on OSHA's EEP program in April 2009 were oil/gas drilling contractors. As with the increased media attention last year by both the Charlotte, NC Observer and the Las Vegas Sun, there is a lesson here somewhere about the receptivity of the mainstream media to our message -- even in states generally seen as anti-union. Of course, that's not the only way to get out a message, and it won't be enough as the opponents' campaign against PAWA gains force. But it's not too early to start approaching mainstream media sources with higher expectations than we may have had in the past.
