The first posting on this also had the email address of the bus reservation person, Ruth Young, wrong; it added an s. The correct email is [email protected] In a message dated 1/8/2010 5:35:28 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes:
Dear All, With apologies for any cross posting I’m sending the information I got by phone from Catskill Mountainkeeper (CMK) about the statewide gas drilling rally in Albany on January 25. When: Monday, January 25, 2010; 11 a.m.; lobbying afterwards Where: on the steps of the back side of the Capitol in Albany Who: people concerned about dangers of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) Why: to urge Governor Patterson to continue the moratorium on horizontal drilling until the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finishes its study on fracking which has been mandated by Congress Buses are being arranged from various parts of the state. If you want to board one in Steuben or Chemung County, email Ruth Young ([email protected]) to make a reservation, giving her your name, home town (so we can encourage car pooling to the bus) and phone number where you can be reached late the night before or early the morning of the event in case the trip has to be cancelled because of weather. Please send cc to me ([email protected]) since I will be checking people off at the Corning site (probably Wegman’s parking lot but yet to be determined). Send check for $30 made out to PHE (People for a Healthy Environment, Inc.) and mail to Gale Lyons, 1013 Lake Street, Elmira, NY 14901, knowing that if the trip is cancelled you will get full refund. Please write Ruth and Gale immediately so we can soon see how many buses we need. If you cannot afford $30, just send what you can and ask for assistance. If you cannot attend but want to enable someone else to do so, please send a contribution. If you know people in Chemung, Steuben and west of here that may be interested but may not be on a gas drilling list, please forward this message to them. To register in order to get appointments lined up with your respective legislators, go to this link: http://www.citizenscampaign.org/special_features/hydrofrackingcenter.asp Folks, in this movement there are some people favoring strong regulations; others want a total ban on fracking now. This is the perfect chance to unite, stand up and be counted by the public and the press, and show elected officials and the gas industry that MANY, MANY people are deeply concerned and demand an extension of the moratorium at least until EPA does its study. We have time to get a HUGE turnout if everyone acts now. Staff at CMK told me yesterday that the Onondaga nation is already committed to fill two buses. With your help we can fill many more. Susan I’ll leave you with this poignant poem “We Are a Thunderstorm” written by Amity Gaige, now a published novelist, who wrote this at age sixteen: Individually, we are single drops of rain, falling silently into the dust, offering scant promise of moisture to the thirsty land. But, together, we can nourish the Earth and revive its hopes and dreams. Together, we are a thunderstorm. _______________________________________________ For more information about sustainability in the Tompkins County area, please visit: http://www.sustainabletompkins.org/ RSS, archives, subscription & listserv information for: [email protected] http://lists.mutualaid.org/mailman/listinfo/sustainabletompkins Questions about the list? ask [email protected] free hosting by http://www.mutualaid.org
