strategies, including resources for creating and working with a matrix of
what’s important to you

3/9: *“Designing for Change”* – including aging in place, functional design
that can adapt to changing needs, planning for additions, and how to make
the most of what you have without adding on

3/16: *“Reducing Construction Waste”* – introduction into options for
construction waste, including strategies and local resources for reducing,
reusing and recycling construction materials, on-site waste management, and
the basics of deconstruction

3/23: *“Designing for Maximum Energy Efficiency”* – including Passiv Haus,
Net Zero Energy, and Climate Responsive Energy Design

3/30: *“Designing from the Outside In”* – Ian Shapiro, President of Taitem
Engineering, discusses a new approach he developed for looking at how we
think about our built environment

4/6: *“Green Building Theory and Reality”* – how well are our green
buildings performing? What has worked, what hasn’t, and what we’ve learned
from the past decade of green building.



All seminars are held 7:00-9:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Ithaca
Annex (208 E. Buffalo St., near Aurora). The series is presented by Tompkins
County Cooperative Extension in partnership with the Ithaca Green Building
Alliance, with support from the First Unitarian Church of Ithaca. Fee:
$5/seminar or $25/series, scholarships available. Dates and topics subject
