I don't know if this is the correct group to give you the perfect
answer....

BUT from personal experience I have found out that in your care may be
the only way to accomplish the balance between "form and function" would
be to slice the page design in ImageReady and then see if you can save
some bandwidth by replacing non essential images with common BG
image/color...

Any screen captures?

maybe a little bit of both.
the problem seems to be with my oval, drop-shadowed buttons. Our
clientele likely do not
have new equipment, so alternatives like png & svg, or even swf aren't
acceptable. But
older export options like gif turn out jaggy & lose the shadow. And,
since my
background image is screened back, any jpeg, even with a low-opacity
matched
background, shows a hard-edged box around my nice oval.

form follows function.
still, I'd like a nicely functional, visually pleasing form.

any ideas?
thanks, really.
