There were versions of unzip that didn't set permissions properly.
The Java 'jar tool'. The reason the 'jar' command didn't work is
probably because you installed a JRE instead of a JDK (JRE is for
running only, JDK is for development.
As to the 'slowness' question, relative to ASV Batik loads documents
slower. As Batik doesn't support SMIL animation at all this might be
part of the problem with animation.
