Jean-David, It would be safe to say that it's next to IMPOSSIBLE to ensure color fidelity across the board for monitor displays.
Several reasons: 1) Perception & ambient light -- color is VERY subjective, so how can you tell if it's being rendered correctly on someone else's computer somewhere across the globe? You can't, but we can try to make it consistent with calibration/profiling and color management. 2) Lack of Calibration - the average designer, much less the average consumer, rarely calibrates their monitor. To effectively control color, you need a color management system in place; Macs have had the ability for years (ColorSync), and Windows recently added the ability, to calibrate and profile the monitor. To do it right, you also need some way to objectively measure color, like the devices from Xrite or Greytag-Macbeth. 3) No support for ICC profiles within most browsers. So, even if you provide color-corrected SVG and HTML content, it doesn't matter, the browser is at the mercy of the users' hardware. Some Mac browsers support ICC profiles, so if you have an all-Mac audience (unlikely) then go for it! The best you can do is calibrate your own system and hope the end users' isn't too far out of adjustment (especially your clients'). HTH. (woo hoo! Glad to finally be able to contribute, albeit off-topic, to the list!!) Hello, I have been asked how reliable color rendering is across platform/machines is. Can one say that colors (including xlinked images) rendered by ASV will look exactly the same on different machines/browsers ?? A quick look on a Mac and a Dell laptop seems to say yes but ...
