I don't know of another way.
Actually, this is can be an advantage when you are looking for a nice 
method to segment you code into objects. I've been using zero-sized 
iframes as javascript objects; they also work dandy for debugging.

I also swap out svg, using a single embed and a 'container' svg 
document in the parent. I write from XML files into the container.
