Hi everyone, I've posted a description of a new application built with XForms on my blog:
<http://internet-apps.blogspot.com/> It includes some screenshots and download instructions, and may be of interest here because it shows how XForms controls can be positioned on top of Microsoft TerraServer maps--so by extension, SVG can be positioned, too. Any of the three TerraServer 'themes' can be chosen by the user, as well as loading a number of different 'marker files' (which contain the map position and a list of markers to overlay onto the map). The markers correctly relocate as the user navigates and zooms in or out, but since the markers are XForms controls, they still include mouseover hints, and when clicked can navigate to a web-site. Sample marker files include a list of high buildings in New York, and conference and hotel details for the SD Best Practices conference in September. Mouseover images are provided for all markers, as well as links to the Wikipedia entries, or hotel web-sites. I know that there is a lot of interest on this list with mapping, so I thought I'd post. But also this is a continuation of the previous discussion about positioning SVG on top of XHTML; you can easily change the controls to have animated SVG icons, or even video clips. If anyone takes the application and extends it for their purposes, I'd really like to know about it. And if anyone has trouble extending it, feel free to post material to this list or the formsPlayer Yahoo! Group, and we'll see if someone can't fix everything together to show how it could be done. Note that we're already extending the app to support Google Maps, but that is actually easier than TerraServer, so we started with TerraServer first. We'll also be supporting OpenGIS and WMS, which works really well.
