Thank you both, the Mime-type thing is all over the place with the server and I used to have to make my stuff svgz but it seems to be okay with plain SVG at the moment so I'm not overly concerned with it. I installed the Adobe plugin in my copy of firefox and it worked okay on that, I've finally come to the conclusion that I need to place the script in the svg file rather than make it an external entity, which is a shame really as I like to seperate them out... ahh well. While it was external I placed the reference to it in relation to both the image and the htnl file and I still got the same error messages...?
Anyway, it's fixed now, but any ideas how I might have overcome the issue would be welcome.
