I think that this is a great idea. SVG is underrepresented in other
conferences. I gave a talk on SVG at the local XML conference, Tri-XML [1],
and it was very well received [2], so I think that there is definitely
interest. Even when I'm attending (not presenting at) non-SVG conferences, I
try to spread the word about SVG, and there are usually a few interested
people (even at non-XML conferences).

In a way, presenting at SVG Open (which is a great conference) is preaching
to the choir. We need to spread the love to the uninitiated.

If anyone knows of an appropriate conference, I am eager and able to attend
or present. I started a page for conferences on the wiki [3] a while back,
and people are welcome to help fill it in. It's also a good idea to submit
known SVG presentations as stories at svg.org [4].

| Why not include the SVG Mobile within the SVG conference and
| make it a bigger impact.
|
| I work in planning events for organisers in the exhibition
| industry in the UK and have seen many sucesses where a
| smaller player (not saying SVG is a small player) is included
| within the event. For example, a large machinery show
| included a smaller exhibition alongside it called Tooling.
| The Tooling show expanded due to interests from the Machinery
| show and is now 30-40% of the overall exhibition. Maybe the
| same could be done for SVG where you have
|
| *The SVG Mobile and Desktop Conference 2006
|
| *An Event showcasing mobile SVG and desktop products from
| major players such as company1...blah....blah blah...loads of
| blahh etc.. the latest in....company massive...blah (hope you
| get my drift.
|
| I would say you will get more companies/developers exhibiting
| from both sides, okay so more may come from the mobile area
| but does not mean they will not be interested in the desktop side.
|
| Its only a thought but I presume the SVG Conference is a
| non-profit organisation so the budget is not there for marketing etc..
|
| If whoever organises the event is interested in the above
| suggestion I could possibly ask contacts in the industry
| (leading event organisers) about how to move forward etc. and
| possibly any help they may give.
| Maybe an event that is currently ongoing in the mobile arena
| I could ask if they would include a seminar conference part
| to it etc... If I dont know someone, i pretty much know
| someone who does.
|
| If you dont ask you dont get so I will definitely suggest it
| to some people within the industry if the organisers of the
| SVG Conference are willing for me to ask.
