Thanks for the pointers. I think inkscape is going to be very useful to me. Looks like a lot of good SVG info on both the treebuilder and the coderead site.

Well, I was using Mayura and right from the start, test drawings I did in Mayura worked in the adobe plugin and not in firefox. And then, as I skulked around the web looking at SVG examples, I almost never found one that worked in firefox but they usually worked in IE with the adobe plugin.
