Geodata in Europe is often very expensive to use. Geodata aquisition is usually government sponsored and income throgh sellling geodata covers usually only up to 10-20% of the expenses. Recent studies have shown that the economic value of the governmentally produced geodata would be much higher if the geodata would be made freely available or at marginal cost (e.g, covering the administrative costs of delivering the data). I would like to ask people on this list to sign a petition to put some pressure on politicians to make geodata available for webmapping applications under more reasonable license conditions - marginal cost or free.
