My reading of the 1.1 specs suggests that a <clipPath> is a container 
for a set of "graphic elements".

That ought to include any combination of 'path', 'text', 'rect', 
'circle', 'ellipse', 'line', 'polyline', 'polygon', 'image' and 
'use', but not 'g'.

I have found that Opera and IE differ in the degree to which a SMIL 
animation defined on a clipPath will propagate through reuse (<use>) 
of that path. I've got some examples somewhere, if you'd like me to look.
