David, That's a wonderful example for me and for the knowledge base in this group. I learnt several things about the DOM as well.
The loop I used in my second post to this thread (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/svg-developers/message/57931) ran surprisingly fast for 3000 nodes.
