Dear List,

thank you very much for your solution. I only wanted to give you
some clarifications.

1. I do not use css styles. I read Jonathan Watt's SVG authoring
guidelines (http://jwatt.org/svg/authoring/). He recommands using
SVG formatting attributes. The use of css does not solve the problem
in creating a mouse event on an underlying element.

2. The solution from Jeff convinced me. My problem is in reality
much more complicated. But I think I will associate the id of the
underlaying element as an attribute with the overlaying elements. I
can then in my javascript function use the event target and the
attribute to change the color of the polygones in both groupes.

3. Before I posted my question on this forum I was looking for
another solution. My idea was to create a mouse event artificially
on the underlaying group if I move my mouse over an element of the
overlaying group. I did not manage to write the code. Nobody
proposed this solution ? I think I did a mistake.

Thank you very much for your help!!!!
