The group here seems to be interested in everything that has to do with SVG, so
just thought I'd mention the application I'm working on. This bit is
interesting to me at least, and it might be unique. So far, I'm not doing
anything truly remarkable with SVG itself. I've even had problems getting
animation to work when I change variables dynamically (MSIE). Still, it looks
like even the small amount of SVG capabilities I'm using is producing a good
result. SVG provides a very light way to produce dynamic graphics that can be
used on a variety of devices.

I'm working on part of an advanced AI / Robotics system for Institute of
Robotics in Scandinavia AB (Gothenburg, Stockholm).

My part includes a command center than can be accessed anywhere, anytime -
built as a web browser application as well as a new part in robot systems
architecture currently rather generically referred to as HLL (high level
logic). I'm sending commands to HLL via AJAX. HLL does some processing and
communicates with the robot (currently a small robot simulation running on my
computer). The robot sends information back and it eventually reaches the
browser. SVG's part includes a layout of the environment and a little robot
moving around through it, showing off how smart it is.

I can already do part of this on other devices. I have a Dell X30 (Opera) and
Nokia E70 to work with. I haven't gotten around to making the graphics work on
all these browsers yet (so much to do, so little time), but the day will come.

I'm the first person to have mentioned SVG at the company. Most here are not
focused on browsers. When I demo this month, it will be the first time anyone
(besides me) will see the result. I'm not a graphic artist either, and have to
share my time with other parts of the development effort. I worry a little
about a cheesy looking demo not being SVG's fault - but leaving people less
than fully impressed. I have about a month to clean other things up and focus
more on the demonstration. I'm hoping the SVG part will make a good impression.

It's not a problem. It's an opportunity.
Correlation does not prove causality.
