http://www.colorbrewer.org is a site by Cindy Brewer that offers an "online
tool designed to help people select good color schemes for maps and other
graphics. It is free to use, although we'd appreciate it if you could cite
us if you decide to use one of our color schemes. ". On her homepage are
also many links to map color research.
