Hi, there is a very powerful (but not very pretty) open source font editor available at http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/
Among many other formats it also supports SVG fonts and even generates the kerning tables. It works fine on Mac and Linux but is a bit complicated to install on Windows, since it requires X11.
