Is it possible with SVG to define "variables" which can then be referred to
in multiple places in the XML? For example, I'd like to see something like:

<var id="stdX" value="100.0"/>

<rect id="r1"  x="*stdX" y="200"... />

<rect id="r2"  x="*stdX" y="300"... />

Where "*stdX" is dereferencing the pointer to the variable named "stdX".

I realise the syntax is imaginary but do you see what I am trying to
achieve? Then if I modify stdX, I only need to do it in one place (I am
thinking of the scenario where the value is changed programmatically).

Any thoughts on ways to achieve this?

Thanks,
