Has anyone succeeded in creating a web app, with many large buttons?

success implies instant response ~.005s
my experience is that with nine buttons 150 x 50 the delay is marked ~1s
either Webkit or Opera*
as the mouse can easily cover many buttons/second this is clearly not
acceptable.

**Many contributors such as Jeff, Nicu et al. have used filters with
buttons to create drop-down shadows.
Old machines have smaller screens, but slower processors....
*Mozilla doesn't yet support begin for animations.
