Hi,

Pantograph (http://severnclaystudio.wordpress.com/bluebeard/) is a Python
script to render Blender (3D graphics program - http://www.blender.org/) files
as SVG (or SWF but I'm trying to render to SVG).

The trouble is I can't get it to work and I'm hoping somebody here knows how to
do it. I've tried asking this on a Blender site but haven't got a response.

Apparently Blender 2.49b can't find it's Python files in Windows and Pantograph
doesn't seem to work with Blender 2.5 beta (which uses a different version of
Python). Therefore I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and then installed Blender on it.
I then put the Pantograph files in the same folder with the other Python files.
This was harder than it sounds because it refused to let me change the folder
unless I had root access ("What do you mean I don't have root access, I've
installed this on my own home computer, only my wife and myself use it and
she's really a Mac person and says that I'd have more luck teaching a cat HTML
than her - sod security!"). I eventually figured out that I could have
something called a launcher that would open files as if I had root access. So
put the Pantograph files in the folder with the other Python files.

Now I need something called Polygon. I have to build that from source code and
for that I need Python.h. Blender 2.49b uses Python 2.6.2 but that isn't the
latest version and I can't find the source code for older versions. I
eventually realize that I can get the source code for older versions of Python
by typing something at the terminal.

Now I need Python-cairo, which needs Cairo but that's normally included in
Python distributions. Only not the one I've got so I need to download that and
build it before I can build Python-cairo.

Then I need to export the PYTHONPATH and edit the pantographLib.py file.

Right all done. Open Blender, open a Python window, click on the Scripts
button, click on Render and .... No Pantograph!!!!! I looked through all the
other items in the menu in case it didn't know where it should be. No! The
Add Scripts thing doesn't seem to do anything! The Update Menu doesn't correct
the problem. How do I get this thing to work?
