As usual, there are several ways to handle this. I did a set of similar
drawings a fews ago. In the process I tried out several different
approaches to doors and windows.

1. Place a rectangle filled with the background color where the door
should be.

Although this approach is simple, the effect is only visual. The "wall"
is still there behind the rectangle.

2. Place a rectangle filled with the background color and stroked with
a thin line.

Like the previous approach, this is simple, but the effect is still only
visual. The "wall" is still there behind the rectangle.

3. Replace the simple rectangle with a path, only drawing lines where
the walls actually exist.

This approach is more complicated, but it gets a more accurate
representation. It was also more necessary in my case, because my house
is not rectangular.

If you are looking for a "good enough" image, to see what you can get
without investing a bunch of time, the first two approaches do work
relatively well.
