Hi Ruth, I did look at geoname's web services. The problem is that I need to send them queries. Can I send a query like give me all the points for a particular country code? If so, then I can look at adapting the xml data to my application.

I am not sure how you can use existing (SVG) applications and implement them in your own environment. I use a lot of their services here: http://www.mappetizer.de/traveldiary/TravelDiary_Ruth/index.html e.g. weather (the sun icon in the toolbar), Wikipedia, but also information about the local language at the specific lat/lng, timezone, findNearBy. It is fun to use those data. --- Ruth Von: [email protected] <mailto:svg-developers%40yahoogroups.com> [mailto:[email protected] <mailto:svg-developers%40yahoogroups.com> ] Im Auftrag von Pranav Lal Gesendet: Samstag, 28. PL] What does your application do? I plan to parse the text dumps of the map data and then plot them on the map. I will use circles as points. Of course, if geoNames has a database that I can query and get hierarchical information that is, get a state from a country and then all the places under that state, I could produce nicely structured SVG.
