Howdy Rodger

While Chrome has HyBi version 8 websocket support and from what your
saying Firefox 7
has version 8, the actual version number in play for HyBi is at
something like version 15
last I checked (oops just checked again we are up to version 17). By the
end of this
message it may change again :) Versions 14,15,16, and 17 were all
released in just the last month (Sep 2011).

Luckily , most of the changes between version 8 and now don't mean much
to the average
implementation. My favorite feature since around version 7 is
the version negotiation feature as it along with a little header
sniffing in the
handshake would allow a single socket server to concurrently support
probably
all the websocket versions. Of course supporting those versions prior to
data masking
is something I would discourage.

In implementing the HyBi support in the AsterClick project (HyBi version 15)
the server code was re-factored exactly for the purpose of concurrently
supporting
the entire range of websocket protocols as well as non-websocket protocols
while allowing us to address newer protocol versions without having to
break older ones.

Most of the changes to the websocket spec for the last several versions
have to do with features most folks will never use, although I guess I need
to go read through the last two iterations (16 and 17) of the spec to
see what Santa Clause
left me. :)
