Well, I suppose a part of my point is that this list is named "svg-developers" and I don't see how drawing a picture with MacPaint-type tools in Inkscape or AI or any other programme and then saving it as SVG has anything to do with developing in SVG or the development of SVG. >...There is another one on Wikipedia[1] that was obviously redrawn >by hand (not hand coded, hand drawn in Inkscape). The entire size on disk of the original MacDraw programme was 99,000 bytes. Properly created SVG is compact and readable. Once you have let these programmes export an image as SVG it is practically impossible to do any useful editing of the code. The image is a dead as a jpg. I don't write SVG directly by hand, which would be very tiresome, but have written a Perl module to create the SVG files. This allows me to do the necessary trigonometrical calculations etc, perform the necessary loops and create readable SVG files very exactly and rapidly, with meaningful ids and comments where necessary. I can also read in fixed data from text files to create the variables needed in the drawing. I can also create Quicktime movies by generating each frame as SVG and converting to PDF. As you say "not everyone has the skills, time and nerves to do it", but I expect a list named "svg-developers" to cater for those who have at least some time, and the nerves, and a wish to develop those skills. To ask why 15K or 27K of garbage exported from MacPaint version x doesn't look good in neoBrowser v.0.002 is not only asking for the moon -- it's of absolutely no educational value for those who want to improve their understanding of SVG.
