Gave the iPad 3 a testing. What a beautiful display! Should be a boon to developers of SVG icons and graphics.
One problem I encountered was in loading SVG files. If you open a page in portrait mode and then switch to landscape, the portrait mode remains in effect for the window size. This means total distortion of the SVG file no matter what preserveAspectRatio you use. Previous iOS versions followed the preserveAspectRatio "xmidymin". The new one doesn't. If you want to view a 16 by 9 aspect ratio file you must load the file in landscape mode, you can not switch. I know that Apple is determined to control all distribution and iPad development through the use of their software tools. Whats good for Apple is good for the country and the world! I wonder if anyone in the SVG open source community is working on a script, or whatever, to thwart Apple in its intent to make SVG totally dependent on HTML and their way of creating software. Something to automatically resize the page aspect ratio for SVG files so they work right. Anyone?
