The initial failure was NOT, except that the PostgreSQL build builds a PL/Perl interpreter that MIGHT Be considered that.

From what I understand in reading some perl bugs and perl source, perl performs some validation of the structures shared between the perl interpreter and XS libraries loaded into it. So I am almost sure that you have perl itself and some module built against different src/ bases. Is it true ? If yes, then this is user error.
