FWIW- I received a not-insignificant number of valid complaints about the original default change because default color schemes are hard, and continued to receive an insignificant number of complaints as recent as a couple months ago (~2 years after the change?). This is considerably more flack than I expect to receive from other controversial proposals I've made and it was based on a fundamental misunderstanding of coreutils.
