Log:
The locationmap reported by the error message may not be anything to do with
the actual problem, what we need is the hint, but this can only be found (at
present) by scouring the logs.
Ugly, very ugly. We really need to sort out caching in the locationmap so that
we can actual track what is found and what is not found, or at least make it
throw an error at an appropriate point.
