I'll probably take a look at a 1.7 package for the PPA at some point after 1.7 makes it into Debian unstable. As you can see from the bug log: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=621692 there's a fair amount of associated complication, so I'm not planning to jump ahead of Debian in this case.
