the installer KERNELVERSION and KERNEL_FLAVOUR differ from live-helper
this config:
KERNELVERSION = 2.6.24-1-486-vyatta
KERNEL_FLAVOUR = di
causes the Makefile to properly run depmod w/in the respective initrds
