addcon: simplify; log to stderr when appropriate
- systematically change "printf{ to "fprintf(stderr, " where it is
followed by exit(1)
- change some INT variables to more correct BOOL
- "verbose" isn't a BOOL. Don't treat it as one.
- eliminate some duplicated code in main()
