In libreswan you can't do this anymore in some cases. Setting
nexthop=%defaultroute for both left and right now doesn't seem to work
and you have to make sure to only set it in the config for your side.
Is this an intentional change in behaviour? It certainly is a bit
inconvinient and breaks a long established expected behaviour.
It is a bug we need to fix.
then again, you should almost never need to say nexthop=%defaultroute.
Try leaving it out?
