yea, adding/deleting directories still confuses the build system

make distclean
if things go wrong, try that (it does a bit more)

Right. IMO the "correct fix" is to eliminate those files entirely
though. Its been a while, and a number of fixes, since I tried poking
that sleeping dragon.
