Martian Dreams is the only Ultima from the '90s that has not been
re-released on CD. Desperate players tend to hunt it down, although I don't
think that any serious collector would pay more than the original list price
for it. In fact, MD recently fetched far higher prices than Savage Empire on
eBay, I've seen as high as $280 for a shrinked copy, and $250 for an opened
one. Still, this was just a sudden surge in interest, and as a result people
listed their sealed MD's with high Buy It Now prices. There were almost a
dozen sealed copies on eBay within the last months, most of which went
quickly for whatever BIN had been set.
You could purchase both games together for $29.95 as late as in 1993, Origin
included this offer in several of their catalogs, to liquidate their
overstock. Both Savage Empire and Martian Dreams are only slightly less
abundant than Ultima Underworld, unless we're talking about SE's limited
edition, or the GT Software release of MD.
As for that bidder you've been watching, he was willing to pay $1500 for the
Akalabeth cover art, and more than $300 for the FM Towns versions of U4 and
the Ultima Trilogy. $300 for each, that is.

I might have asked it before, but what's up with these two Worlds of Ultima
titles that they're going for a king's ransom anyway... I've seen the
original series go for way less. Way way less.
