Always. I still think about some of the older titles (ok, lots of them)
and loading them back up & starting from scratch. Several times the memory
has been more than the actual experience, but I think the problem is time.
Games are a way to pass the time. This is a problem I have not had for many
years :) Sadly this usually leaves me playing more action-oriented games
(Wings of Fury, Force 7, Hard Hat Mack, etc.) than the RPG ones (Bard's
Tale, Ultima, Wasteland, Wrath of Denethenor, etc.)
In your own situation, you suddenly had more free time to yourself
(albiet for an unfortunate reason). Now the games seem more vibrant and
enjoyable. After you get back in your daily routine, I think that feeling
will fade somewhat (my guess).
I'll always have the memories, and the comfort of knowing I can always
go back to them whenever I want. But its hard to find a block of time
(100-150 hours) to invest in an old game, especially if I've already beaten
it a long time ago.
