I've seent them before, but they're not on all disks (just
looked at my "Tangled Tales". Nada.). My guess is they're
manufacturer-specific and that there are no rules for interpreting them.
My $0.02.

Subject: [SWCollect] Floppy Disk Numbers

Hey gang,

Anyone know what the number is that's on the back of all 5-1/4" disks
(bottom right corner)? One of the Eyal Katz buyers thought maybe it
could be used to determine the age of a disk or where it came from.
