You can mix in the full dialect with the simple dialect, and import
bitmaps that way. There’s an XSLT extension for importing bitmap data
within the full dialect. Off the top of my head I can’t remember how
to use it but if you like I can check later.

There’s no simpler way to import a bitmap as a BitmapData, unless I’m
much mistaken.
