hi I have been implementing swfobject for some time now and am a big fan of how accessible it makes a site that would otherwise contain a lot of javascript sniffing, but I was wanting to know what the current thoughts are relating to SEO.
>From my position it works on all areas, it makes it easy to add flash to a page, it also allows me to provide alternate content easily and deal with non javascripters and non flashers but I am often being told by a SEO person that it is not ideal at all and that I should always be providing alternate content via the <noscript> tag rather than adding it to a div and having swfobject replace it with the flash. I have seen posts about similar concerns in the past but no one has anything definite to say about it.
