Yes, SWFObject should work with IE8. There were some fixes added a while ago
to deal with some IE changes. What SWFObject does is detect Flash player
version, it does not expose to you what browser the user is using. So in
regards to detecting IE8 from previous versions, no, it is not relevant to
the SWFObject methods.

Do let the team know if you think you have found an IE8 flash player
detection related bug though.

I am curious whether current implementations of swfobject will work in
IE8.

I know there are a couple of settings in IE8 for it to work in
'compatibility mode' and 'quirks mode' but can SWFobject detection
methods recognise IE8 from the previous versions?

Have tests been made with IE8?
