SWFObject 2.x uses the DOMready event to fire all of its replace functions
(as we need to have access to the DOM ID to replace content with etc).
DOMready fires when all the HTML and js files have been loaded and available
to the javascript interpreter. This is separate to when all the page content
having loaded (images etc), and happens earlier in the page rendering
process.

Have a look here for a simple example:
http://demos111.mootools.net/DomReadyVS.Load

So, you should be safe with your HTML slideshow as long as you are replacing
the div where the images are defined with your flash content.

I can always double check for you if you supply a link to your page.

Cheers,
Aran

Subject: Re: Double page load with heavy alternative content?

Ahhh, gotcha . . . interesting question. Way above my pay grade :~)
I look forward to the answer also. I've never worried about that, but I can
see that a large amount of alternative content like that might make a
difference in download demand.

Jimbo,
first of all: I don't have any problems with my site, everything works
perfectly. But to enhance the experience for people (and Search Engine
Crawlers) who don't use Flash, I thought of putting all the images of
the Flash slideshow into an additional HTML slideshow and then put
that where the alternative content is placed. I know how to do that,
again: That is no problem. My question is: Will the alternative
content be loaded (as in: Will it use bandwidth and slow things down)
even if it is not displayed because Flash works for that specific
visitor just fine?
