There is no particular limitations in using a strict doc type and SWFObject
2.x etc. It sounds like there is some markup in your page which does not
adhere to your desired doc type.

Run your page / code through a validator like the one here:
http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_uri+with_options

And see what errors / warnings it comes back with.
